Russian made officer's shashka (sword) for Bulgarian government during the reign of Ferdinand I. Slightly curved single edged blade with one wide fuller on each side. The blade is made by Hörster E. & F. Co., Solingen, Germany and decorated with etching. The slogan in Cyrillic reads "GOD WITH US 1888" (С НАМИ БОГЪ 1888 ) on one side and "YEAR OF 1888" (1888 года) on the other. Wooden scabbard wrapped in black original leather. Brass fittings, guard and pommel. The brass cross guard bears marks: 570 and manufacturer's stamp of the Russian Imperial double headed eagle and ST. PETERSBURG (ПЕТЕРБУРГ). Wooden grip wrapped in shark skin (all original) wrapped with twisted brass wire. Original hanger with brass buckle. Overall length is 33.5", blade length is 28.0", blade width by the grip is 1.2". Very good condition.
